On the run

So last weekend, my dear sister, Lindsay, asked if I might want to run the Grapevine Grapefest 5K with her in September. (This story is illustrated with the gear required for our family to run because I don't have any pictures of us actually running.) I enthusiastically agreed. I loved to run in college and ran at least that distance every morning. On Monday it occurred to me that this running in college was about 7 years ago. On Tuesday I realized that it has actually been about 15 months since I exercised regularly at all. On Wednesday I thought perhaps I should go for a walk or run sometime before the 5K in September. I don't want to look stupid or be outrun by my own little sister!

So Aaron, Walker, Abraham, Bella, and I went for a run Thursday morning. The thermostat read 89 when we left the house at 6:30 in the morning, and it was up to 92 by the time we returned 29 minutes later. We managed to walk quickly for 2.25 miles (our usual Saturday morning stroll), and we actually ran a whole block of that distance! :) We both agreed that we are horribly out of shape, and made a covenant to work out sometimes.

I went again this morning. I was sore because of my extreme work out yesterday, but I pushed through it and tackled the nieghborhood sidewalks again with the jogging stroller and both dogs. Aaron had to work early, so he lucked out and didn't have to run. Today I managed to run almost a mile of my total distance. Then I had to walk slowly all the way home because I thought I was going to pass out.

I will keep you all up to date on my "training," and I will provide real-life pictures of our adventures in the future! So far, I'm a little worried for us. Maybe we should get a stroller like Walker's and let Lindsay push us at the Grapefest.

I am of the belief that if God had intended for man to run, He would have made us with a saddle on our backs. Therefore, being an obedient child, I don't run.

Here is a link to the vineyard run website. You might need it for inspiration while running in this wonderful weather. You are braver than me. I've been doing the treadmill thing. http://www.vineyardrun.com/

Wait a minute! Bella was out jogging with you this week? I thought I didn't see because she stayed at Kyle and Lyndsay's apartment. Now I find out she's hanging with her peeps in Big D and pounding the pavement with a second cousin. Wait until I see her again.

I am with your Mom. Walking is good enough for me but good luck on that 5K.

I'm finally getting back to running. I haven't done more than 2 miles, cuz the doctor said I should take it slow in the beginning. My shin only hurts a little bit, so that's good!
Have fun with your 5K!

Well, since we live in Phx and our temperature highs are above 115 in the afternoon, we either work out in the pool, or on the treadmill. However, I do not intend to get involved in such activities as marathons. Or to run at all. Will I have to hide, when you guys show off in Red River, in shame? I think I subscribe to your mom's idea. I may have to crawl...

Yeah, I'm not much of the running type either. But those shoes are cute!
